FROM THE WORKSHOP TO THE WORLD – THE LEGACY OF LLOYD GEORGE’S DECISIONS CONTINUES TO SHAPE THE FUTURE. COME AND DISCOVER MORE.

From his beginnings in Highgate Cottage to his central role as one of Britain’s leading prime ministers of the twentieth century, Lloyd George’s influence is still felt today in politics, society and social rights. Here you can explore collections, documents, memorabilia and places that show how his ideas and decisions shaped Wales, Britain and the wider world - and how they continue to encourage public debate and modern democracy.

Come and discover the life and legacy of one of the most influential politicians of the 20th century - David Lloyd George, Prime Minister of Britain from 1916 to 1922. This unique museum offers an immersive experience that brings history to life through artefacts and personal stories that tell the tale of his upbringing and extraordinary career.

WHAT CAN YOU SEE?

  • A unique collection of freedom caskets, artefacts and personal memorabilia tracing his impact on Wales and the world, encouraging visitors to reflect on how the legacy of those decisions continues to shape our world today.
  • Step back into the Victorian era in Highgate, Lloyd George’s childhood home, furnished as it would have been between 1864 - 1880. (Highgate is not wheelchair accessible)
  • A carefully recreated version of his uncle’s shoemaker’s workshop, offering insight into his early life and the place where he first learned about politics.
  • A short walk to see his grave beside the River Dwyfor, designed by Clough Williams-Ellis – a peaceful and beautiful spot to reflect on your visit.

We look forward to welcoming you!

I enjoyed being challenged in my understanding of Lloyd George. I arrived thinking he was all good, I know now there are questions to this. Overall though I still believe what he did that was good eg national insurance out weighs any critisisms.
My GCSE history grade is gonna thank me for coming here,
